When: June 16, 2007 (9am-4pm)
Where?: Portsmouth Olympic Harbor
Why?? What better way to meet new people, see your CORK friends, become more familiar with the summer plans and gain some training as well?? The day’s plan is as follows:
9am-12 noon: First aid refresher. This will be a great way to review your “first aid basics” prior to the CORK regatta season. There is no doubt information gained will be valuable not only for your volunteer activities, but useful for first aid emergencies which may occur in work, with family or at play! Jennifer Laing has extensive experience as an instructor, and while this is not a certification course per se…the added bonus is that it is free! If you would like to attend this course, please contact Erika@powick.ca by June 12th.
12 noon-1pm: VHF Refresher. This session will provide a background on VHF use, protocol as well as highlight any 2007 VHF updates. Ron Walsh, the course leader, has an extensive background with radio communications, is a great teacher and would also be able to answer more in depth questions you may have on VHF use. Certification will not be granted at this free info session. However, there will be a certification course at Portsmouth Olympic Harbor on the 23rd of June. If you’re interested in the VHF course on June 23rd or plan to attend the information session on June 16th please contact Erika@powick.ca by June 12th.
1pm: Volunteer Light Lunch and Social
2-4pm: CORK/Youth Worlds Operational Meeting
Note: June 16th also presents an opportunity for anyone keen on gaining the Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) to challenge the test at 4pm. If you are interested in doing so, you must sign up prior to June 8th. The special discounted fee for writing the test will be $35. There is a minimum number of people required to write this test, please confirm that you will be writing it via Erika@powick.ca by June 12th.
