Kingston Boys and Girls Club Joins Forces with the Volvo ISAF Youth World Sailing Championships
Tim Irwin, chair of the Volvo ISAF Youth World Sailing Championship, is extremely delighted to include youth from the Kingston Boys and Girls Club as part of the event’s volunteer crew. “It is great to involve youngsters from the Kingston community in a high level sport competition where they will meet many wonderful, healthy athletes from around the world!”
During this prestigious international 18 and under regatta, over forty youth from the Boys and Girls Club will be involved with both the opening ceremonies (July 13th) and the daily competition at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour (July 13-20th).
There is no doubt that the 25 youngsters from the Boys and Girls Club holding country placards during the opening ceremonies parade will demonstrate great Canadian pride! During this ceremony, which starts at 715pm on July 13th, over 300 athletes and coaches from 51 nations will walk in parade fashion from Newland’s Pavilion to Grant Hall (Queen’s University).
During the competition (July 13-20th), as part of the club’s Leadership and Training program, 10-15 teenagers will also volunteer on-site doing a variety of tasks. Their help will truly be appreciated!!
According to Irwin, partnerships with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club “not only benefit the regatta organization, but allow individuals to learn new skills, gain confidence and establish new personal goals. What better way to have fun during the summer? “
